Vision/Intent

We want all of our students to leave The Harbour School with the knowledge and skills they need to thrive now and in the future. We will ensure that they are not just ready for their next educational steps, but ready to take their place within their local community as successful, confident and responsible citizens.

Our curriculum offer matches the needs of our students. We believe that every student, no matter their background, ability or past experiences, has the right to a high-quality education. We are focused on creating positive learning opportunities, and rewriting any previous negative school experiences. Our work centres around guiding our learners to rediscover what makes them curious and hungry to learn.

At The Harbour School, our core values of grow, learn and achieve are at the heart of our curriculum.

1. Grow

Our curriculum is designed to foster personal growth by cultivating a positive and nurturing learning environment. We have created a specialised curriculum that nurtures the development of our students and promotes not just academic excellence but also emotional intelligence, resilience, and a strong sense of self. Through a wide range of experiences, we encourage students to embrace challenges as opportunities for learning and empower students to find and develop their own voice.

2. Learn

We are committed to providing a high-quality and personalised engaging curriculum. Students are taught by subject specialists who are passionate about their field. Through our principles of ‘thinking hard, developing character and understanding diversity’, lessons are sequenced carefully and effectively. This ensures that students, however long they are with us are able to build on prior knowledge and skills so that they are well prepared for the next phase of their educational journey.

3. Achieve

Our curriculum is designed with a clear focus on achievement, not just in terms of academic success but also in the development of well-rounded individuals who are able to take their place successfully in their local community. We set high expectations for our students and provide appropriate qualifications and experiences to support their future success. Students are provided with opportunities to close gaps in their knowledge, develop confidence and embrace a range of positive learning experiences.
