Grow
Our English curriculum helps students grow into confident communicators and imaginative thinkers. By exploring a wide range of stories, plays, poetry, and nonfiction, students learn to express their ideas clearly and creatively. They reflect on how culture, history, and personal experience shape stories and develop empathy and understanding through literature. Activities such as imagining other worlds, writing from historical perspectives, and sharing opinions help students find their voice and build confidence in self-expression.
Learn
Students gain a strong foundation in reading, writing, and critical thinking by studying diverse texts and genres. They learn how to analyse features of poetry, prose, and playscripts; understand storytelling devices like flashbacks and suspense; and explore themes like dystopia, myth, and legend. Through engaging with works by authors such as Shakespeare and contemporary writers, students discover how language, structure, and devices create meaning. They also practice journalistic techniques, construct arguments, and learn how to communicate effectively for different audiences and purposes.
Achieve
Our English curriculum equips students with the skills to achieve success in both academic and real-world settings. Through analysing texts, connecting ideas, and creating original works, students learn to communicate authoritatively and persuasively. They master techniques for crafting compelling stories, constructing strong arguments, and using poetic devices powerfully. By building on their understanding of language and literature, students are prepared for the challenges of KS4 and beyond, confident in their ability to engage audiences and express their ideas with impact.
