To begin, let’s share what we want.
What we want at The Harbour School is an attendance culture where all students want to come into school (and where their parents/ carers want them to), as often as they can, because they see the value and purpose in education and are enjoying learning.
When they are feeling a little unwell, we want our students to see the value in learning and commit to attending, trusting that the school will support them if they feel more unwell throughout the day.
If students are having friendship or any other related issues, we want them to trust us. We want them to talk to a trusted adult about it and unpick the issue(s) together.
If students skip breakfast to make the bus, we want them to have the confidence to get on the bus, get to school and ask us for breakfast so we can provide what they need.
If a student wakes up late, we want them to have the confidence to come into school and know that it will be ok.
We want an attendance culture where students and families value teachers, where teachers respect students and their families, and the school community works together to support a great educational experience.
StudyBugs
At The Harbour School, we’re pleased to share that we are now using an efficient and secure system for reporting student absence as a result of illness, called StudyBugs.
StudyBugsprovides a unique communication platform for children’s health, used by thousands of schools and parents across the UK. In partnership with the NHS and other public health organisations, Studybugs tracks what bugs are going around and passes on expert advice to keep children healthy and in school.
Parents and Carers can get the free StudyBugs app, or register on the StudyBugs website, and use it to tell us whenever your child’s ill and unable to attend school.
Please see the link below or click on the button above to sign up so that you can register your son or daughter on StudyBugs.

Top 3 reasons to use StudyBugs
1. It’s integrated with our systems so we know right away if your child is unaccounted for.
2. Saves you time — it takes seconds to give the school all they need, and know they’ve got the message even if you’re reporting at 6am or 11pm the night before.
3. It’s quick and easy to register and use and automatically reminds you to keep us posted.
4. You’ll be helping the NHS and other public health organisations improve children’s health.
