Vision/Intent
Grow
Our mathematics curriculum helps students grow in confidence and problem-solving abilities. By exploring key concepts such as number value, shapes, and fractions, students develop logical thinking and practical skills for everyday life. Activities like interpreting data, managing money, and solving real-world problems encourage independence, resilience, and curiosity about the role of mathematics in the world around them.
Learn
Students build a strong foundation in mathematical knowledge and techniques. They explore topics such as the four operations, fractions, decimals, percentages, and algebra, learning to identify patterns and relationships. Through hands-on activities, students gain practical skills like finding areas and perimeters, converting units, and interpreting data using Venn diagrams or probability trees. They also delve into geometric reasoning, understand concepts like congruence and Pythagoras’ Theorem, and discover the historical impact of mathematics, such as contributions from the Greeks.
Achieve
Our mathematics curriculum equips students to achieve academically and apply their learning to real-world contexts. Whether balancing equations, analysing offers, or solving puzzles, students develop the ability to reason, calculate, and communicate mathematically. They learn to use tools like calculators, graphs, and estimation to check their work and solve problems efficiently. By mastering these skills, students prepare for future challenges, feeling confident in their ability to use mathematics in everyday life and in further education.
Through exploration, practice, and application, our mathematics curriculum nurtures critical thinking, problem-solving, and an appreciation for the power of maths to shape the world.
