The Bridge campus is a full-time educational provision that provides highly specialised Alternative Provision for children and young people in KS3 and KS4 who for a variety of reasons are unable to attend a mainstream school. This includes social, emotional and mental health difficulties, permanent exclusion from a mainstream school, pregnancy and young parents and where looked after children are between placements. Students are taught in small groups and access a broad and balanced curriculum. Social and emotional skills are a key part of the curriculum offer and students at KS4 are able to access a range of option choices. Reintegration back into mainstream education is a key focus of our KS3 offer and is also considered for students in KS4 as appropriate. All students are well supported to transition into the next phase of their educational journey

Students are taught by highly skilled practitioners who adapt their practice where needed and are thereby able to meet the needs of all students through targeted, differentiated support.

Activities are carefully planned to build on previous learning, supporting students to retain and then apply their knowledge to future, and possibly unfamiliar learning activities.

Learning is carefully checked and monitored, with regular opportunities for feedback, both inside and outside lessons.

Opportunities for reading are carefully interwoven into lessons, focussing on improving the confidence and enjoyment of reading of all students.

Interventions

  • Students are able to access the ‘talkabout’ program which provides support for social skills, speech, language and communication development.
  • Selected students will have access to direct work with a Speech and Language Therapist or assessment by other external agencies such as CAHMS or an Educational Psychologist.
  • All students are able to access a Nurture Room if needed.
  • Selected students will be able to access 1:1 reading interventions outside the classroom as well Lego therapy.
  • Off-site trips complement the curriculum offer and give opportunities for students to practise social interactions in the community.

Entry Process

  • Alternative Provision students are referred by their mainstream school through the Local Authority Inclusion Support Panel- Fair Access Panel
  • All students on arrival will complete a robust induction process, which will include the creation of a student profile and an Individual Learning Plan (ILP). This will be reviewed termly with parents, the mainstream school and any other assigned professionals.
  • Students are either single registered with THS or dual registered with THS and their mainstream school.
  • Some students may initially attend Harbour as part of their 6th Day Provision following a permanent exclusion from their mainstream school

Reintegration Criteria

  • The criteria that will be used to determine when a student is ready to reintegrate back to a mainstream school would be:
    • good (improving) overall attendance
    • meeting ILP targets which evidence a readiness to reintegrate
    • agreement of all parties (including the student) at an ILP meeting that this is the right pathway
